Why Not McCain? Part II

So, in my continuing effort to talk about some of the reasons that I refuse to support Senator McCain I'm continuing on. Now I did get some flack for my first one, but again, like everyone else I am entitled to my opinion and these are merely that .... my opinions. Follow me below the fold.
I understand the Republicans overall are not in favor of abortion. While I respect the right of everyone to hold an opinion - even (and perhaps especially) while that opinion is different from my own, I have a real issue with Senator McCains stance on abortion.
I have always been of the firm belief that our elected officials must reflect the desires of their constituents as much as possible. In Senator McCains case, he's taken that support to whole new levels.
I understand that there are millions of people who for reasons of their own believe that abortion is simply not an option. And, I have no issue with that whatsoever. For me, abortion isn't necessarily a choice that I would make - however I don't feel the need to tell someone else that's not a choice they should be ABLE to make.
I firmly believe that if a woman decides that she wants to have an abortion that the procedure should be available to her (a) safely and (b) without the fear of repercussions from society.
Senator McCain wants to criminalize abortion (or at least make those doctors who provide them criminals).... .
On "Meet the Press," McCain said he had "come to the conclusion that the exceptions for rape, incest, and the life of the mother are legitimate exceptions" to an outright ban on abortions. "I don’t claim to be a theologian, but I have my moral beliefs." If Roe v. Wade is overturned and abortion outlawed, McCain said he believes doctors who performed abortions would be prosecuted. "But I would not prosecute a woman" who obtained an abortion.

I have friends who actually went out of state when we were in High School to obtain abortions (clearly before RvW) and frankly, I think that this in of itself is a crime. Why should women who make the painful decision to have an abortion be forced to seek care outside of their own physicians?
I do not believe that they should. I firmly believe that Senator McCain will do everything in his power if he is elected POTUS to place judges on the bench that will in fact overturn Roe vs Wade. As a mother and a grandmother I am outraged.
I don't think that most women who make the decision to have an abortion do so lightly, nor do I think that for the most part that abortion has caused an increase in 'birth control' abortions. While I may not necessarily agree that abortion is an option for me, I certainly do not feel that someone else should make that decision for me or for anyone else.
John McCain FAILS ON ABORTION issues as well as other women's issues which I'll go into in later diaries.
