Senator Barack Obama

I believe that there is a somewhat defeatist air that is taking over many of Senator Obamas supporters while there is an increasing air of moving forward in Senator Clinton supporters. Aside from the fact that we're all ready for this to end, we must help keep a positive momentum.
I feel that most of us decided quite a long time ago exactly who we were going to vote for and why we were voting for them.
Please take a moment to remind yourself why you're supporting Senator Obama.
I have three children in very different 'walks' of life if you will. My oldest son is a career Marine, my middle daughter is an attorney and my youngest daughter is a stay at home mom.
Given that they were brought up in a single parent home, none of them were ever really privvy to my voting habits, partially because I was very young (only 38) when the youngest left home, and frankly I never really discussed politics with them.
Senator Obama and Senator Clinton have brought an entirely new excitement to this election like none I've ever seen. I have three children who email me once a week at least and talk to me about what's going on in their home areas with the Presidential Election. Two of my three children support Senator Obama while the other supports Senator Clinton. They are 31, 30 and 28 - they are all registered Democrats. Mom over here is a registered Independent.
We can talk about the demographics - that Senator Obama garners his votes from educated upper income younger people, and perhaps to some degree this is where the demographics of my own family come in (the two who support him do perhaps fit into this category to some degree). I break that demographic however because I am a single, white, middle aged woman with some college but no degree and consider myself to be 'blue collar' by most standards but I am not a Senator Clinton supporter.
But I'm getting off the point(s) I am trying to make. Let's think for a moment how exciting it is for us (all of us) to see in our lifetimes not just a woman but an African American man running for the high office of President. How exciting is this? Personally, I wasn't ever sure I would live long enough to see this.
I'd like to ask everyone to reflect on a few things: (a) Senator Clinton and Senator Obama are both Democrats (b) for vastly different reasons they have reached out and touched very different demographics (c) they both are running for the office of President because they feel that this is something they want to do for their countries and are doing it for the betterment of the country as a whole.
For those Senator Obama supporters who are feeling a little winded after the developments over the last several days let me remind you that Senator Obama is running in a platform that tells us that having hope is the right thing to do. Senator Obama believes in the grass roots organization that he has built up from literally nothing except a few dedicated people. This network is now a significant force that will be reckoned with. Another reminder that might help you when you're sitting there wondering what's coming next is that Senator Obama is a powerful force on his own but the real strength behind him is his supporters, a fact he gleefully acknowledges.
The facts remain what they are. No-one believes that recent remarks by other people are in fact the beliefs of Senator Obama. Not only do his strong words clearly tell us that but I remind you that he has a history of fighting for the people. Senator Obama has always worked in the grass roots and under a fair amount of adversity.
Then there is experience. We've heard so much talk about this but the fact remains that Senator Obama brings a unique amount of experience that you can't get in politics. Senator Obamas experience was learned from people just like you and I. From listening to what we feel is the right thing to do. From working on grass-roots initiatives and making them come true.
In addition, I've seen a level of political involvement that I haven't seen in any campaign that I recall since I was a teenager and watched my mother get involved with Paul Tsongas. It's not often that so many of us come together to support something or someone that we so firmly believe in.
Senator Obama has shown incredible grace under incredible pressure. He's not that 'angry black man' that so many people were anticipating he might be when things were not going his way.
The best way to continue to support Senator Obama is to continue what you've been doing. Support him, talk to your friends, your family and take a couple of hours and make calls on behalf of this campaign. You may get people who don't want to hear from you, people who hang up on you and people who say thanks but no thanks, but keep calling. Even if you only are able to reach one person in a hundred that you can convince that Senator Obama is the right candidate, then that person will tell another person and so on.
Do what Senator Obamas supporters all over the country are doing. Stand behind your candidate and offer him your support in any way that makes a difference.
We can make a difference in the upcoming primaries and lessen the momentum that Senator Clinton is currently experiencing and when we do that we will be more than ready to do battle with Senator McCain.
UPDATE: I wanted to add this video that I found today hopefully I did it right :)
